The Highline is an urban regeneration project. The NYC Highline gives to public use an old train viaduct, transforming it into a system of green areas and equipment connecting 3 districts of New York. The Highline is perhaps one of the most iconic works of the present New York, in which one meets to the recovery of a space for public use, the reuse of an element of the collective memory, and the local vindication, to preserve a site, and to influence his politicians obtaining that one becomes an encounter place.

The competition opened to the citizens and organized by the Friends Association of the Highline (FHL) for the recovery of the railroad routes, was won by the New York office of architecture diller scofidio+renfro and the landscapers Field Operations. Friends of the Hihg Line (FHL) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and reuse of this structure, a 1.5-mile-long historic elevated rail structure on the West Side of Manhattan. Founded on 1999, FHL is supported by nearly all the elected officials representing the High Line neighborhoods, numerous civic organizations, and thousands of preservationists, open-space advocates, design professionals, and civic-minded individuals and businesses from New York and across the United States. This documentary offers an overview of High Line, its history, the movement to save it, and designs for its reuse.
